Kilwell have hand made fly rods and sold flyfishing tackle since the company began in the 1930's. While we make and distribute tackle for most every sportfishing situation, you could say that flyfishing is our passion. Being situated at Rotorua in the central North Island of New Zealand helps too.... because when we've finished rolling blanks, turning corks or putting the finishing touches on your rod, you'll find us on local waters. |
A primary goal of Kilwell Rodcraft has been to constantly improve upon and evolve the fly rod itself. One thing has never changed: our dedication to making not just the best performing fly fishing rods in the world, but the most beautiful rods a fly fisher can own, and we still handcraft them here in New Zealand. Over the past 75 years, Kilwell Rodcraft has used many different materials to build our fly rods, including fibreglass, various types of graphite and now, our second generation premium rod is reborn. The Innovation II fly rod uses state of the art technology and materials, with high modulus blanks formed on mandrels that have been tried and proven to suit the Kiwi style of fishing on our rivers and lakes. The action of the new sanded blank has been slightly softened for better presentation while retaining power and light weight. The twill-weave graphite reel seat is finished with titanium hardware, the grip is “A” grade Portuguese cork and the oversize stripper and snake guides have titanium frames.

For almost 75 years Kilwell has been designing and refining workable fly fishing rods for New Zealand anglers and tough New Zealand fish. Now SAS gives you TWO rods in ONE! The new Kilwell SAS range of fly rods has a unique concept. Each rod is supplied with an additional mid section. The high modulus (H), or lower modulus (L) section, allows you to change your rod from a grunty distance casting machine handling heavy nymphs and wet flies, to a delicate tool for the presentation of an evening dry - without changing your fly line weight. So no matter what nature dishes out to you, your SAS rod will cover every condition. |

Back in the 1970's New Zealand anglers were introduced to 'graphite' for the first time ever by Kilwell.
Graphite rods were a state of the art leap forward from Fibreglass materials that dominated the market at the time. Today, although modern materials and designs have continued to develop, we still receive many requests for New Zealand's Original graphite rod - the Kilwell 9089 and 9067. Our Presentation series rods are precious things we hold close to our heart, but cannot explain to those who simply wouldn't understand!
